The Superior Hiking Trail - Minnesota's Least Known, Best Thing

By Eric H Anderson

The Superior Hiking Trail would typically not make a top ten list of things Minnesota is known for. Most people would list the 10,000 lakes, Bob Dylan, Jesse Ventura or maybe Lake Superior. It is understandable. At face value Minnesota and world class hiking would not seem to go together. The truth is the Superior Hiking Trail is one of the greatest natural attractions in Minnesota.

This area is very different from the central plains area of the state and home to the Sawtooth Mountains. Adventure Travel Minnesota

By Lanette Higham

If you are in search of wildlife, Zippel Bay is where you will find the endangered Piping Plover and it is a paradise for bird lovers. Start walking on the sandy shore of the Lake of the woods, follow the trail all the way to Zippel Bay where on a clear day you can actually see the curve of the earth. This is the place to kick back and watch the Sandhill Cranes, take in the views and just relax.

The true adventurer could start at the beginning of the great Mississippi River in a boat and take it to the The Gulf of Mexico. Itasca State Park also offers a scenic drive through the 32,000 acres taking you back 8,000 years in history. <<more>>
