How to Go Biking in Barcelona

By Daniel Lesser

What could be more exciting than taking a bike ride through the beautiful streets of Barcelona? There is just something very peaceful and refreshing about a leisurely bike ride through a breathtaking European country. Not only will you and your guests have a chance to get a good workout, but you will be able to see a lot of beautiful scenery in the process.

Barcelona has a very bike- friendly atmosphere and there are many bike lanes on the roads. Combine these features with the sunny weather and this is the perfect combination for bicycling.

Guided Bike Tours

If the only thing holding you back from taking a bike ride through Barcelona is your fear of not knowing where you are going, that is understandable. No worries, there are many different bike tours that you can take where you will ride with other tourists who are in the same situation that you are in.

Many of these bike tours also have bikes you can rent and they also come with biking equipment like helmets, knee pads and elbow pads. This equipment is an important necessity because it ensures your safety.

Barcelona even has a taxi service called Trixxi that drops off light weight foldable bikes. When you are done riding for the day they will come and pick up the bike.

Different Paths with Different Levels

There are many different bike tours available throughout the day. Many of them are around four hours or less. There are even different types of bike trails. If you prefer the straight and narrow path there are many of these routes throughout the city.

If you prefer more of a challenge with hills and windy roads, there are paths with these features as well. There are even bike paths that combine both styles for a very interesting biking experience.

Helpful Pointers Before You Go Biking

Some of the precautions you may want to take into consideration before you get on a bike are making sure your muscles are fully stretched. Nothing can put a damper on your bike ride more then pulled muscles. This can be prevented by warming up your muscles before you go on that bike ride.

Also remember to take into consideration your fitness level. If you haven't ridden a bike in a while, you might be better off going on your own rather than with a group of bike riders.

This is because when you go by yourself you can set your own pace. When you go with a group everyone goes at the same pace and if it is hard for you to keep up it might be hard for you to enjoy your bike ride.

Always make sure and take plenty of water with you and bring some money just in case. Bike riding can be a good workout and work up a sweat, therefore staying hydrated is essential.

Make sure to find a bike with a seat that is comfortable for you. If you are going to be biking for at least 4 hours you want to make sure that your body is fully supported. This means to make sure you have a seat that will support your body weight.

If you don't have an option as to what type of bike to choose you can bring your own ergonomic bike seat and see if they have bikes that will fit your bike seat. Having the right bike seat can make you feel much more comfortable and will give you a more enjoyable bike ride.

There are many different choices when it comes to bike riding in Barcelona. You can choose to go on many of the different bike tours available. You can also make the decision to go by yourself. One thing to remember is that safety should be used at all times, therefore wearing protective biking gear is essential. Following all of these tips should provide a fun and exhilarating bike ride that will be fun and allow you to see everything Barcelona has to offer.
