Heli Hiking
Heli-hiking is a craze that has started in Canada but is sure to make its way all over the world any day now. In a normal hiking situation, you go in a group and simply walk from point A to point B. Your group will probably take rest stops in between, but to get to the final destination by lunch or sundown means that you will have to keep the pace. In heli-hiking, the opposite is true. As a guest, you are the one who sets the limits. Confused, well read on. See; in heli-hiking everyone gets up at the same time, and then you all take a helicopter ride to the beginning of the walk. Everyone hikes together until a certain check point is reached, and at this point the helicopter will be waiting. Anyone who wants a break or who cannot walk the rest of the way can sit in the helicopter and be flown until they can walk again, or they can sit there for the rest of the day and watch the scenery from above. The hike gets progressively harder the longer it takes, so no one is left out. If you just want a short walk and a relaxing view, then you can bail out after the first couple of check points and enjoy the view from above. If you want to be pushed to your limits then you can stay for the whole hike; it's up to you. Heli-hiking is loved by all people, but senior citizens are finding them most appealing. Caught between wanting to live life and wanting to be safe, heli-hiking offers the over 50 crowd a way to see the world without having to put their health at risk. Parents with young children love these also, because the frequent stops means that the child can alternate between resting and walking and not get bored. People with difficulties walking like Cerebral Palsy also enjoy heli-hiking, because they are not excluded from activities.
